Social media – Resistance is futile!

Often in a casual conversation about what I do—I advise businesses and nonprofits on the strategic use of social media—the response I get is this: “I don’t have time for that stuff.”

That may well be true for you in your personal life. But if you’ve said this regarding your business, here’s my main message: “You don’t have time NOT to be participating in this stuff.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Birth of BizConNH

Welcome to New Hampshire’s Business Connector!

As executive director of the Greater Peterborough (NH) Chamber of Commerce, it’s my pleasure to welcome you both to this blog and to this event. Because many of you have asked, let me tell you how BizConNH began.

In late 2008, a number of our members, led by Sequoya Technologies’ owner Tom Strickland, began talking about promoting better B2B (business-to-business) networking opportunities for our members. Since this was obviously a good idea, a committee soon formed with an eye toward developing an event for the fall of 2009.

But what kind of event? We didn’t want to do yet another “expo,” though expos have their place, to be sure. We wanted to do more. Maybe a “business boot camp,” where you could learn as well as network and shop. One good idea led to another, and soon it became apparent that to do things on the scale and level that we wanted, 2009 was not possible. Our committee was all about trying to cram as many benefits for exhibitors and attendees as possible into the day, and this would take time.

Thus the committee set its sights on a new date, October 2010, and a better concept — a Business Connector, where new and established businesses and business people could connect for their mutual success. And, under the leadership of its chair, Sharon Bailly of TWP Marketing & Technical Communications, BizConNH grew to include participants from throughout the state — not just the Monadnock Region — and beyond.

So, what is BizConNH? Yes, part of it is a traditional expo, with dozens of B2B vendors primed to make a deal on their goods and services.

BUT, it is much, much more:

  • Your choice of four from among 20+ different hour-long workshops, where you can learn what you need to be better.
  • Informal “table talks” for up-close-and-personal interactions with our specially selected presenters and other attendees.
  • A not-to-be-missed keynote address by noted entrepreneur and motivator Jim Grant (author of, among other books, If You’re Riding a Horse and It Dies, Get Off).
  • Oh, and did we mention a great lunch, with lots of other networking opportunities?
  • And that it’s easy to get to and there’s plenty of free parking?

In short, for a great price, this will be a great day all about growth: business growth and personal growth.

Please look me up when you get there — I’d love to hear your story!

Jack Burnett
